Lost Tribe Perfumes
Grinch was created as a darker kind of holiday perfume. It’s inspired by the spirit of the Jim Carrey film: sharp, mischievous, and layered with unexpected warmth. The scent offers a wide range of depth; it’s green, resinous, and alive, but grounded in leather, smoke, and animalic depth.
The backbone of Grinch is fir; rich, resinous, and natural. It’s the scent that defines the structure from top to base, giving the fragrance its clean vertical line. Around it, the blend moves from green and brisk to warm and worn-in, carried by the unmistakable texture of leather and the density of castoreum absolute. The Merauke oud adds a touch of smoke, not thick or heavy, but enough to give the base movement.
The top opens with bergamot, nutmeg, Christmas tree accord, and juniper berry. The bergamot gives brightness; the nutmeg adds a dry spice that ties the citrus to the woods. The Christmas tree accord introduces the first impression of fir, balanced by the cool edge of juniper. These materials work together to set the tone.
As it develops, the scent opens into a rich heart of woods and greens. The pine needle amplifies the fir from the top. Clary sage adds a faint aromatic lift, while rosewood provides soft warmth that begins to bridge into the leather below. Orris smooths adds a touch of powder but not sweet at all, while galbanum gives a crisp green edge that helps to reinforce the leather accord.
The black tea and palo santo notes deepen the middle. They work like a frame around the resin and fir. The fir remains visible, surrounded now by herbs, woods, and soft smoke, each supporting the next. Nothing is excessive; every part has a clear role.
The base is where Grinch reveals its depth. Red meat sandalwood forms the core, dense and creamy, grounding the brightness from above. Merauke oud sits just beneath it, subtle but powerful. Its soft smoke note gives life to the structure, creating a mental image of a fir tree burning in the background. The Merauke Oud adds a faint charred tone that weaves through the base.
Mongolian musk tincture gives the base an animalic kick, helping the smoke and leather blend smoothly. Fir returns here, anchoring the perfume in its signature green tone, keeping the composition consistent from top to finish. Clove and cedarwood bring warmth and a slight spice that extends the scent’s life on the skin. Myrrh softens the edges and connects to the castoreum which adds weight and realism to the leather accord.
The castoreum absolute is one of the key elements of Grinch. Soft, leathery, and faintly sweet, giving depth to the woods and resins. It blends with costus root, which adds an earthy musky nuance, and the leather accord that completes the base. Together, they form an animalic warmth beneath the fir and smoke.
Every layer of Grinch leads back to its central idea: the meeting of fir and leather. The small smoke note from the Merauke oud ties it together, it’s not dominant, giving the scent its atmosphere. The fir remains steady, a thread that runs through the entire fragrance. There’s no sweetness here, no excess, only balance between nature and refinement.
