Lost Tribe Perfumes
Black Ops at its heart is a radiant mango note, a deep orris, and a layered floral blend that rests over the unmistakable richness of Sumatra Brasin Oud.
From the beginning, the goal was to create a perfume that feels full of light at the top and anchored by density below. To achieve that, we used a special technique: blending the formula into a pure oud tincture, instead of a neutral carrier. This choice gives the fragrance a natural body and oudy resin, allowing each note to fuse more completely with the next. The result is smoother transitions, longer wear, and an unmistakable depth that can only come from natural oud acting as both medium and material.
The opening of Black Ops sets the stage immediately. The mango bursts, green and golden, never syrupy or overripe but more like a semi unrippened mango. It brings a quick flash of color before settling into the surrounding florals. The yuzu and grapefruit add a sharp edge that cuts through the richness, lending structure to the opening accord. The honeysuckle otto gives support to the fruity mango, and smooths out the citrus, while Iranian rose otto adds a citric rose brightness that keeps the top refined. The white ambergris rounds everything together, giving the blend a polished finish right from the first spray.
Beneath that first impression, the scent begins to widen. The heart opens into a complex floral arrangement, where narcissus plays a leading role. Its natural depth gives the perfume its backbone, strong, slightly green, and perfectly balanced between fresh and dense. It’s a difficult note to handle, but here it finds harmony with the rose trio absolute, a blend of roses from three regions, each bringing a different facets. The rhododendron adds a berry, sweetness that keeps the florals from floating too high, while jasmine sambac lends body.
Running through the heart is a faint trace of raspberry and lychee rose musk. These small fruit notes aren’t there for sweetness but to give the flowers life. Together, they create a smooth progression. Each piece has its place: narcissus for structure, roses for balance, jasmine for fullness, and musk for diffusion.
Then the scent turns as the base arrives, shifting the scent into something darker. The Sumatra Brasin Oud defines this stage completely. It’s deep and resinous, with a natural dryness and a very nice distillation with a slight sharp tartness to it. In Black Ops is carries the florals and fruit through the final phase of wear.
Supporting it are Indonesian sandalwood, Siberian musk, and Chinese oud each chosen for the way they interact with the tinctured base. The sandalwood smooths the structure, keeping the oud’s edges from becoming too assertive. The musk adds a fuzzy itch and continuity, helping the scent hold close to the skin while still projecting depth. The cultivated kinam wood provides a subtle sweet lift, blending with the oud chip tincture to give a touch of smoke and resin beneath the surface.
And finally, there is orris, a lot of it, the quiet note that binds the entire formula together. It appears slowly in the base, sharp and rooty, adding an powdered smoothness to the final drydown. The orris gives Black Ops its texture. In the company of oud, sandalwood, and musk, it becomes the finishing layer, bringing the entire composition into focus.
The complete scent experience moves from sharp brightness to dark elegance; from the spark of mango and yuzu through narcissus and musk to the resinous weight of oud and orris.
The carrier itself, the oud tincture, plays a critical role in how the fragrance behaves. It doesn’t just dilute the oils; it fuses them. The natural resins within the tincture extend the life of the top notes while enhancing the projection of the base. It gives Black Ops a resinous, diffused character, making the transition from fresh to dense seamless.
