Lost Tribe Perfumes
Diesel was built to capture one of the most distinctive scents of modern life, the smell of a gas station, where Gas, Leather, and Smoke all meet to give your brain a buzz. It’s not about nostalgia or mechanics; it’s about translating that raw, industrial character into something wearable and strangely beautiful. Diesel is blended at a concentration just over 50%, giving it exceptional strength and longevity. The scent opens with a rush of gasoline and smoke, softened by a structure of wood, oud & musk, and leather that gives the power scent a refined structure.
Every 15ml bottle of Diesel contains 3 grams of pure oud, sourced equally from Merauke, Chiang Mai, and Quang Nam, one gram from each region. Each distillation adds a different layer of tone and texture: Merauke for smoke, Chiang Mai for its resin clarity, and Quang Nam for its dark leather facets. Together, they give the fragrance a base unlike anything else: strong, dry, and steady.
The opening is bold. Pink pepper gives a clean spark and a fizzy start. Cucumber cuts through this dense blend with a faint coolness, which balances the darker tones to come. Osmanthus introduces a faint leathery scent that sits perfectly beside the Jade wood, another material chosen for its ability to lift and disperse the scent throughout the room. White ambergris finishes the opening, adding smooth diffusion and lift without softening the scent’s mechanical edge.
The heart moves into texture. Choya Ral, a distillation of burnt wood, gives a smoky, burnt quality reminiscent of exhaust from cars and asphalt. Costus root adds a Musky quality that's similar to deer musk but has its own uniqueness to it as well almost like a hybrid between real and synthetic musk. Coriander and patchouli add to the masculinity of the scent as well as adding a sort of spiced soapy freshness. Katafray wood provides a dry, mineral note that keeps the composition from turning too heavy. Lavender is barely noticeable but adds shape, giving the smoke a cleaner frame. Orris brings a soft powdered tone, not floral, just enough to round the texture and prevent the heavier notes from closing in.
As it moves into the base, Diesel reveals the true intent behind its name. The three ouds: Quang Nam, Merauke, and Chiang Mai, merge into a complex, layered foundation that mirrors the density of raw fuel. The ouds have been aged and balanced so that no single one dominates.
Fossilized amber and Sri Lankan sandalwood bring warmth and polish. The amber is the lead scent behind the gasoline accord, with its destructive distillation method its scent is obscure but keeps you wanting more. Sandalwood smooth creaminess creates a smooth background for the more abrasive notes above. Siberian deer musk sits at the center of the base, tying everything together, its warmth gives shape to the smoke, its subtle animal tone blending with the oud until the line between natural and industrial disappears.
The vetiver and cedarwood atlas come through slowly, adding dry wood and sharp green note that stretch the life of the fragrance. Tobacco and nootka wood appear in the final stages, leaving a scent of leather and strangely enough pencil shavings.
The overall impression is steady and strong: smoky, leathery, and slightly metallic, but anchored by wood and musk. The gasoline inspiration never turns chemical or abrasive; it’s transformed into something tactile and real. The balance between smoke and wood is what makes it work, one side rough, the other calm. The leather tone appears naturally from the blend of costus, tobacco, and musk, giving the scent a worn, resilient feel.
Over time, Diesel settles into a soft, smoky wood tone with faint traces of fuel and leather. The ouds hold the scent close to the skin, letting the musk and fossilized amber glow gently in the background. Every element has a purpose putting this composition together piece by piece.
