At the outset, this blend greets the senses with an invigorating burst of bergamot and pink peppercorn, whose sparkling and slightly spicy notes cut through the air with refreshing clarity. This lively opening sets the stage for a more profound exploration of the forest's depths, with fir and black spruce lending their crisp, clean, and balsamic aromas, reminiscent of pine needles and fresh, green branches.

As the journey into the fragrance’s heart progresses, the scent unfolds into a rich tapestry of earthy and woodsy elements. Cedar atlas and intrepid cypress anchor the heart with their robust and grounding wood notes, evoking the timeless strength of ancient trees. Patchouli adds a touch of moist earth and decomposing leaves underfoot, its rich, musky sweetness deepening the connection to the forest floor.

Emerging amidst these deeper notes are the resinous vapors of frankincense and the complex aquatic aroma of black ambergris, which bring an element of mystique and antiquity. These are complemented by the vibrant freshness of lavender and the herbal clarity of thyme and clary sage, each layer contributing to a feeling of walking through a sunlit clearing where the air is filled with the scent of flowering herbs.

The unique addition of sandalwood mint co-distillation introduces a cooling, almost minty aspect that blends seamlessly with the warmer, creamier tones of sandalwood. This combination is a nod to the cool breeze that whispers through the trees, providing a moment of respite in the dense heat of the equatorial forest.

As Equatorial settles on the skin, the base notes of Pontianak Oud and Mongolian deer musk emerge, sophisticated and slightly animalistic, encapsulating the raw and untamed spirit of the wilderness. The oud adds a smoky richness, while the musk provides a sensual depth that lingers, enveloping the wearer in a cloak of mysterious allure. Vetiver and petitgrain water close the composition with their grounding, earthy, and woody notes, leaving a lasting impression of a deep, verdant forest after rainfall.

Equatorial is more than just a fragrance; it is an experience—an olfactory homage to the spirit of adventure and the primal allure of the equatorial jungles. It invites wearers to lose themselves in its depths, to emerge feeling renewed and connected to the wild soul of the earth. This scent is a masterpiece for the daring, crafted for those who carry the spirit of the explorer within them, always yearning to discover the uncharted, both around them and within themselves.

4 Step Process

A little insight to the creation of Equatorial

  • Step 1: Encompassing the Jungle!

I started off by researching which specific species of flora that can be found in jungle environments, specifically unique fragrant plants. Identifying which scents would pair well with each other and bringing in some other materials from different regions to help enhance the jungle feel.

  • Step 2: Make it Crowd Pleasing

One thing about most jungle scents is that while they may be enjoyed by the user it is not enjoyed by those around them. However, for equatorial the use of Lavender, Pink peppercorn, Thyme and other materials not necessarily found in the jungle environment make it slightly fresh and clean in scent making it more pleasing to those around you!

  • Step 3: Choosing the Oud

We wanted to go a different direction with the Oud used in this blend and this is why Pontianak Oud was the perfect fit! Slightly smokey, highly resinous and super unique compared to other regions of Oud, this added the perfect balance to the jungle feel. Almost like lighting a wild agarwood tree on fire and allowing the smoke to fill your clothes with its beautiful scent!

  • Step 4: Maceration

This step is especially important for all my blends! Allowing the ingredients to sit together and blend into one another allows it to morph into its final form. The ingredients all combine together giving a chance for the animalics, ambergris and musk, to blend in with the woods and florals and enhance their scent.

Our Ingredients

Frankincense

Frankincense, derived from the resin of the Boswellia tree, has a distinctive, alluring scent. The fragrance is complex, featuring a deep, resinous base with balsamic and slightly spicy undertones. It carries woody notes, with a hint of citrus and a subtle, sweet warmth. This unique combination gives it a soothing yet stimulating character that is cherished for promoting relaxation and mental clarity. Its aroma is often associated with tranquility and grounding, making it ideal for use in spaces dedicated to meditation or spiritual reflection.

Pink Peppercorn

Pink peppercorn, though not a true peppercorn from the pepper family but a berry from the Brazilian pepper tree, offers a distinctive fragrance. Its scent is light, fresh, and slightly spicy with sweet, fruity undertones, which sets it apart from the more pungent and fiery black pepper. Pink peppercorn is appreciated for its ability to add vibrancy and a modern twist, enhancing the freshness and sophistication of the composition.

Cedar Atlas

Cedar Atlas, derived from the Atlas cedar tree native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria, emits a distinctive and robust woody scent. It is richer and more aromatic compared to other types of cedarwood. This type of cedarwood is often noted for its smooth, somewhat velvety texture in olfactory terms, and it carries hints of spice and earth that add complexity to its primarily woody fragrance. It is valued not only for its pleasant and inviting woody notes but also for its fixative properties, helping to stabilize other fragrance components and enhance the longevity of the scent on the skin.

Vetiver

Extracted from the roots of the vetiver plant, this essential oil emits a deep, earthy, and woody fragrance with rich, sharp undertones. Its scent is often described as reminiscent of uncut grass on a warm day, imbued with a slightly sweet or sometimes bitter quality. The character of vetiver is multifaceted: it's simultaneously woody, earthy, and green, with hints of freshness that can vary from clean and crisp to moist and almost swampy.

Fir

Fir, particularly the essential oil derived from the needles and twigs of the fir tree, carries a crisp, clean, and invigorating scent that is quintessentially woody and balsamic. The aroma of fir is fresh and reminiscent of a pine or coniferous forest, especially after rain, offering a cool, green, and slightly camphorous quality. The scent is rich with the vibrant notes of evergreen, evoking feelings of peace and the outdoors. It has an uplifting and energizing effect, often used to refresh the senses and clear the mind. The resinous undertones add a subtle sweetness that enhances the overall woodsy fragrance.

Our Quality Speaks For Itself

Fact 1

Thyme was used by the ancient Egyptians in their embalming practices due to its powerful antibacterial and preservative properties. This aromatic herb, known for its strong, earthy flavor, was also used by the Romans who believed it could impart courage. They would bathe in water infused with thyme before battles and even give it as gifts to convey respect and bravery. Additionally, in medieval times, thyme was placed beneath pillows to aid sleep and ward off nightmares.

Fact 2

A captivating fun fact about frankincense is its long history as a valuable commodity, often referred to as the "king of oils." It was once considered as valuable as gold and was one of the gifts offered by the three wise men to the newborn Jesus, according to Christian tradition. This aromatic resin has been traded for over 5,000 years, used by ancient civilizations across the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean for religious rituals, medicine, and even cosmetics. The city of Ubar in Oman, often identified with the lost city of Iram, thrived on the trade of frankincense and was known as the 'Atlantis of the Sands' before it was buried under the desert sands. Frankincense's deep cultural and historical significance highlights its enduring value and mystique.
