Maui

There are fragrances you're proud of, and then there are fragrances that feel like they are in a whole different league. Maui is the second kind. Out of every citrus I've ever put my name on, this one might be my favorite, and I think it's going to eclipse even Lola's Lemonana, one of our most beloved releases to date.

Maui is built as a citrus chypre, a structure that gives it something most citrus scents simply don't have: staying power. Citrus fragrances have a reputation for being gorgeous for the first twenty minutes and then quietly disappearing. Maui doesn't do that. The tropical citrus heart is anchored by a warm, mossy, woody chypre base that holds the brightness in place for hours, so what you smell in the morning is still recognizably there in the evening. It builds what I can only describe as a halo of freshness that lingers around you rather than fading into the background.

Maui has been designed specifically to overcome real summer heat, and it has genuinely impressed me. It holds up through the kind of temperatures that usually flatten citrus within the hour, staying strong and vivid from morning into night. This is a scent built for summer. It's fresh, it's bright, and it's the kind of fragrance you can reach for without thinking twice, whether you're headed to the beach or just trying to feel put-together in the heat. The chypre backbone keeps it grounded and sophisticated instead of one-note citrus, which is exactly what makes it so wearable day after day.

Maui also has a story I love. The concept came from a dear fan on TikTok whose idea for a long-lasting tropical citrus chypre became the seed for everything you'll smell here. Getting to build a fragrance around a fan's vision has been one of the most rewarding parts of this release, and I think that spirit comes through in the final blend.

The opening starts with tangerine, clementine, and blood orange with that juicy, sun-ripened citrus, while lemon, yuzu, lime, grapefruit, and bergamot layer in a sharper, zestier edge underneath. Sfuma Torchio and Lemon Pelatrice, both cold-pressed citrus extractions, add a spiced citrus, true-to-fruit richness that keeps the whole accord from smelling thin or linear. A touch of ginger CO2 gives it a faint snap, and grey pine sneaks in early with a green that hints at the chypre structure waiting underneath. This is the loudest, brightest phase of the wear, and it's the one most citrus fragrances never manage to get past.

As the top notes settle, usually where other citrus scents start to vanish, Maui transitions into its heart instead of disappearing. Tuberose, rose, magnolia, and frangipani bring a lush, tropical floral, while neroli and blue lotus keep a thread of that opening citrus brightness alive so the shift feels seamless. Ylang ylang and champaca add a creamy, slightly spiced depth, jadewood brings a soft woody undertone, and orris root smooths everything. Cilantro and pink carnation add just enough peppery, green tension to keep the florals from turning saccharine. This is where Maui becomes something more than a citrus and it's the phase that gives the fragrance its personality.

The drydown is where the chypre backbone takes over and the longevity really shows itself. Papua and Bengkulu oud bring a rich, resinous depth, while cedarwood and patchouli add structure to help it last. Frankincense and labdanum give it that slightly incensey, ambered richness, oakmoss delivers the classic chypre mossiness that ties the whole composition together, and roman chamomile softens the base with a gentle, herbal aspect. This is the foundation doing exactly what it's supposed to do: holding the citrus and floral phases in place for hours instead of letting them evaporate, which is why Maui still smells alive and present at the end of the day, not just in the first thirty minutes.

That sprawling citrus top is what gives Maui its tropical, sun-drenched opening, while the floral heart adds depth and dimension as it settles. The base oud, cedar, patchouli, frankincense, labdanum, oakmoss, and chamomile is what makes this a true chypre, and it's exactly why Maui refuses to fade. It's citrus with roots.
