Prince Orris 80%

Prince was always meant to be a tribute to an icon, a fragrance as bold, purple, and impossible to categorize as the artist who inspired it. With Prince Orris 80%, that tribute goes deeper. The lavender-and-powder soul of the original is still very much here, but the oud story behind it has been completely reimagined, and two extraordinarily rare materials have been added that push Prince into territory the first two never touched.

Prince Orris 80% opens exactly as the original does, with Lavender Maillette setting a sweet, floral, slightly herbaceous tone that immediately establishes that unmistakable purple character. Japanese Yuzu cuts through with a sharp, tangy brightness, while Chlorodendron adds a subtle fruity berry freshness. Chinese Geranium lends a crisp, rosy edge, and White Ambergris closes out the opening with an oceanic breeze that gives the first impression real depth.

The heart carries the same lush architecture that made the original so beloved. Lavender Absolute deepens the theme with a richer, more velvety expression of lavender, while Turkish Rose and Jasmine Sambac bring intoxicating floral fullness. Osmanthus adds a soft, apricot-like sweetness, Neroli offers a bitter-citrus counterpoint to keep things lifted, and Jade Wood begins easing the transition into the woody, powdery base that follows.

This is where Prince Orris 80% truly separates itself. For the original, we used a sweet Malaysian oud alongside a Cambodi oud, a combination that smoothed the lavender beautifully but tended to sit further back in the blend, softer and harder to pick out. For this version, I wanted the oud to be unmistakable. That meant rethinking the oud sourcing from the ground up.

The solution came from two regions instead of one. Papuan Tigerwood Oud delivers a sweetness similar to the Malaysian oud from V1, but sharper and more resinous, so it never fades into the background. Then come the two materials that make this version genuinely special. We've added Orris 80% Irones, one of the rarest and most expensive materials in perfumery, a powdery, iris-rich extract that takes years to produce and is priced accordingly. Alongside it sits a remarkable oud from the Maluku region, chosen specifically because it carries its own natural iris-like facet, reinforcing that soft, powdery, violet character from an entirely different angle. Both materials are exceptionally scarce and costly, and together they intensify everything that made Prince purple in the first place, while giving the base a plush, almost velvet-like richness. Patchouli, Red Meat Sandalwood, Vanilla, Fir Needle, and Cedarmoss round out the base exactly as they did in V1, providing the same creamy, resinous, forest-fresh finish that grounds the whole composition.

Every 15ml of Prince Orris 80% still contains 2 grams of oud, but this time that oud is doing far more work. Between the boldness of the Papuan Tigerwood oud and the rare iris-toned Maluku oud working in tandem with the Orris 80% Irones, this version of Prince doesn't just smooth the lavender into the background it takes it to a whole new level. The result is a fragrance that keeps everything you loved about the original while adding a level of rarity, depth, and sheer material quality that few flankers ever attempt.
